My First Big Seattle Snow!

Okay, I'm from New Mexico. When I was little I remember snow. We would sled. We would tube down very large hills. There was snow. As I grew up, the snow seemed less and less until we got one day of snow a year and then just mud and slush.

This is our current situation.

It's been snowing since Monday. School has been canceled since Tuesday (Monday was a holiday and no school anyway). I haven't been able to go to work because the family I work for has been working from home this week due to the weather (also, it's terrible on the roads!). We are stuck inside. It is still snowing.

It's gorgeous here! I'll never say otherwise. However, that being said, I am getting cabin fever. The girls are cooped up and getting too wild to handle. I have no ideas for what to do with them and their attention spans are non-existent anyway. I will leave this post saying this: I love the snow, but I need it to stop now.
That said, here's a suggestion to keep warm.

Okay, so here I am.

There have been a lot of changes over the past year.  The biggest change was moving my family from New Mexico, where my kids were born, to Seattle, where none of us had been before. I like choosing a place at random and moving, but I had never done it with kids before. I had no job beforehand, no apartment, no experience in such a big city.

We've done okay. I got a job at Starbucks (since I was in Seattle, why not?) and found an apartment. I enrolled Sadie in kindergarten. I am trying to make some changes to our life and blogging will be a part of it, I think. I need an outlet, so I've decided to start here. More to come...

SHIVER-Write ten things about a book (plus one thing you would like to change)

While looking around on the internet I found this little form and decided to use it for a sort of book review. It's called "write ten things about a book (plus one thing you would like to change)".  I got it from the Enchanted Learning website.  It's simple, so I may actually have time to do it!I just finished Shiver by Maggie Steifvater and I really enjoyed it, so I'll start with it.

1.  Grace is one of the best female characters I've read about recently.
2.  Sam is one of the best male characters I've read about recently.
3.  The detail involved in describing the woods was impressive.
4.  The plot was unique.
5.  It was often hard to predict what would happen.
6.  There were a lot of relateable  feeling in this book. Reading it brought out a lot of emotions.
7.  Shiver was very easy to read.  Being really busy, I still managed to read it in a reasonable
          amount of time.
8.  I enjoyed the format. Going from Grace's point of view to Sam's point of view made the
          story fun to read.
9.  Keeping the number of characters to a minimum is a great way to help the reader connect
          with the main characters.
10. It was a wonderful relationship.  Seeing it develop and grow was amazing.

One thing I would like to change:  I'm still trying to figure out why the Rachel character existed.  She was in the story a very limited amount and it didn't seem to be a very important role.

I Found Some Time!!!

So, it's been a very long time since I've posted anything at all here.  I've been working and going to school and raising by girls and moving (twice!) and a whole long list of other things.  I finally found two seconds to sit down and update my blog.  I'm trying to get life in order and, if all goes according to plan, I'll be moving this summer.  The destination is....Seattle!!  Sadie's starting kindergarten in the fall and I'm hoping to get things figured out so I don't have to move the girls around while they're in school.  I'll be graduating in May with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.  I've been spending a lot of time with little ones.  Last week I even taught a drawing class!  We drew a lovely seahorse.

 Isn't he cute!  It was my very first time drawing a seahorse, and I think I did pretty well.  


Anyway, moving on.  Sadie and Lena are getting so big.  Lena will be 3 in April and, as I said, Sadie's going to start kindergarten in the fall.  They grow up way too fast!

There are my girls, cute as ever! So this is an initial post that I'm hoping will turn into a continuously posting blogger, but life happens, so I make no promises!

Okay.  I'm starting to get a better schedule down at work.  Maybe someday I'll be able to write again.  But until then, I'll leave you with a picture.

I love the summer because the kids can play outside all day long!

I'm very sad to hear that Phil Harris has died. The Deadliest Catch is one of my favorite shows and I have a tendency to get attached to people on my shows, he was one of them. The show won't be the same without him and fishing won't be the same without him. Rest in peace Phil.

Feeding a Preschooler

So, I'm taking Early Childhood Education classes.  I had Health, Safety, and Nutrition today.  I have a terrible time feeding my kids very well because Sadie is incredibly picky.  My teacher suggested to try as many different colors as possible, because more colors means more different vitamins.  On that note, does anyone have any interesting suggestions on how to get a picky eater to eat.  She's so picky, I actually got her into an American Baby article that Alexa Young wrote for the September 2009 issue!

Man, time flies!

I can't believe that it's already November! I haven't posted since the end of August, and I feel really bad about it. Time has been going too fast and I've been so busy! I'm not quite done being busy, but I will try to post more. Of course, I've said that before, so you probably don't believe me. I just wanted to do a post to mark the 10th anniversary of when me and my husband started dating. November 8th, 1999 we finally decided to go for it! It's been a long ten years, with a lot of ups and downs (currently in a down!), but I still love him and, as far as I know, he still loves me.

Here's to another ten years ahead of us!

Too Little Time

So, as the name of my blog implies, I've got too little time. I haven't posted in a very long time and I feel bad. I'm taking online classes in addition to classes at my local community college in addition to having two little girls and a husband. I'm tired. Anyway, my online classes are over for a month and I'm looking forward to having a little time. I'm still taking Organic Chemistry, Pilates, Yoga, and French though, so forgive me if I disappear. I will be trying my darndest to post more often.
I did want to say that my favorite book just came out in paperback!

There is very little in this world that I've ever been more excited for than this! It's my favorite book of all time, so to make a Tim Burton movie out of it is complete genius! I love Tim Burton!

Trust

So I'm having a couple issues currently regarding trust. When a trust is broken, how do you fix it? Where do you draw the line? When has it gone too far and is unrepairable? I've never dealt with these things before and am having a hell of a time figuring out what to do. When there are kids involved everything possible should be done before deciding that a problem cannot be solved, but how? What am I supposed to do to get back to a relatively stable trust? It will never be the same again, but how do I get to an acceptable place?

Sorry for being so cryptic, but I don't really want to go into detail. If anyone wants to be my counselor and find out the details, e-mail me.

I just checked the mail and there are no words for how happy I was! I got an ARC! My first ARC from a non-contest source! Straight from the publicist! It was one I wanted so bad too! I've been waiting to read this since last fall!

So Hastings had this coupon. Buy 2 get the 3rd YA book free. Big trouble. In addition to my MCAT study guide (which I will just say was far too expensive) I left the store with 14 other books! 14! And that's not to mention all the other books I've aquired in the past two weeks via Powells (yay!), more Hastings, Bookmooch, and Paperback swap! I had to take a few pictures to get all of them in!

Back!

I'm back from Portland and I had a blast! The girls were both so happy and enjoyed themselves thoroughly! I wish we could have stayed!

Classes started and I'm taking Yoga, Piano, and Sociology of Marriage and Family. Yoga is four days a week for an hour and a half, so I should get rid of some of my shapes.

I'm reading Lord of Misrule. The fifth book in Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series. I'm truly loving this series. It's gone by so fast! I read the first four in no time at all! There are so many great books coming out soon though, it's going to be hard to get all of them!

VACATION!!!!!

So, I get to go on my very first vacation in 4 years! I'm so excited! We're going to Portland and Seattle!! It's going to be so fun! If anyone has been to either of these places and has any suggestions for me, let me know!

Okay, so I didn't get the Chemistry Research Assistant job that I wanted. It really sucks because I totally thought I would. I decided I'd just take a couple classes instead, so I'm taking Piano, Yoga, and Sociology of Marriage and Family. Hopefully it'll be a good semester.

On a better note, I applied to Portland State. They have on campus housing for families, so I can apply for that if I get in! And they have a child care program like the one the kids are in right now. I'm wishing and hoping that something finally goes right. Just gotta suck it up and save money!
